About Care

Oscar Wilde wrote: “To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.”

There are many words that could describe the tireless, masterful visionary known simply as Care.

After conquering Kitchener-Waterloo, where she was a broadcaster, radio personality, publisher and DJ, to name just a few, Care packed her life into a car and headed east, for the limestone streets of Kingston.

There, while still just in her mid-30s, Care has woven herself into the fabric of Kingston, again toppling radio in, conquering social media and emerging as both a community leader and social media influencer.

IN THE BEGINNING

In her 20s, Care infiltrated the Kitchener-Waterloo music scene, beginning back in 2006. After launching The Rock Show on 100.3 CKMS in 2007, she went on to found Indie Rock Invasion Show Entertainment with local musician and fellow broadcaster, Todd Donald. The pair set their sights on celebrating, exposing and supporting independent artists, bands and musicians. In 2008, after the successful launch of I.R.I.S. Entertainment, Care would continue broadcasting the Indie Rock Invasion Show on 88.3 CJIQ until 2012 and hosting live shows in the region at various venues (more than 300 shows in all). Simultaneously, Care opened the I.R.I.S. Special Events Dj Service and began hosting “I On Music,” which was featured on Rogers TV.

GIVING BACK

Magnanimous to her core, Care also set her sights on charitable work, founding the TABU Music Festival in support of society-labelled taboo topics, and the Mariah Series; a celebration of Women and Music in support of families touched by suicide. After the demise of Echo Weekly, (Care’s first print employer), Care would incorporate I.R.I.S. Entertainment and launch Velvet Rope Magazine, and its newest editions Aggression Magazine and Whiskey Corral Magazine.

I.R.I.S. Entertainment and Velvet Rope Magazine officially closed after years of serving the Waterloo Region in 2014.

NATIONAL EXPOSURE

Care’s professional radio career has included a national show for Today’s Best Country, and  afternoon drive announcer with 104.3 FRESH Radio. She has acted as the entertainment reporter for 570 News & Daytime on Rogers TV (Waterloo Region), the host/producer of Music Tonight also on Rogers TV (Waterloo Region) as well as a featured blogger for Explore Waterloo with the Waterloo Region Tourism Board.

She is the recipient of the Waterloo Region Record’s Top 40 Under 40, has been nominated twice for woman of the year, and has earned multiple Sonic Boom Awards for her projects, including her radio program on 100.3 CKMS. Care’s TABU Music Festival and she and Michael Clifton’s Strummerfest were each nominated for a KW Arts Award in the category of Best New Festival.

LIMESTONE CITY SUCCESS

Since relocating to Kingston, Care has expanded her empire with the establishment and growth of Daisy Entertainment, which specializes in deejaying events, holiday window painting, social media management, live event reviews, public speaking and social media training and seminars.

She has also created and oversees her annual food bank drive, the Days of Care-ing, which has raised thousands of dollars and gathered tens of thousands of pounds of food donations in support of the local food bank.

Care can be reached through her company, Daisy entertainment.
