A number of years ago, Michael Clifton approached me and asked, “Do you remember Joe Strummer?”
That conversation – over a delicious meal at Queen Street Commons – became the start of an institution called “Strummerfest“; an annual gathering of musicians remembering Joe Strummer and giving back to charity during the holiday season.
How many years ago was it, Michael? 6? Amazing how time flies.
This year, the event takes over The KW Boathouse in Victoria Park, Kitchener tomorrow night! (Thursday, December 22nd.)
Donning the handle “Strummerfeast“, folks can feast on fantastic food and take in the sounds of Vienna D’Amato Hall, Ian Smith & Nick Skalkos, and Drew Leith.
Menu includes a variety of hot dishes cooked up by The Boathouse’s premium chefs, and $40 bucks will get you in the door and down to eat. After 8pm, drop by with your $5 donation and enjoy the sweet sounds of the night including T.c. Folkpunk, Skipnoize and, Kensington Hillbillys. Proceeds of the night will be donated to the Waterloo Region Suicide Prevention Council and Your Life Counts.
Oh – and I’ve been asked to MC. That’s rad, too. 😉
See you tomorrow!
